导 读
在这一课中我们将学习对话 “Could I Join the School Library? ”《我可以办个借书证吗?》和“A Family Photo”《一张全家福》还有一篇短文“Giving Information about Oneself”《介绍个人情况》。这几个课文的交际主题都是交流个人基本情况。语法我们讲动词do,介绍主谓宾状结构。

短文 自我介绍
1.我叫琳达布莱克,是英国人。我在英国的一个小镇出生长大。我在剑桥大学学习了三年。 之后我成为一名教师,教了两年书。现在我在一家妇女杂志社工作,当秘书。我不太喜欢这个工作,太枯燥乏味,所以我正试着在教育广播公司找一份工作。想得到这份工作很难,我要全力以赴。
2.我叫罗伯特威尔逊。我是教育广播公司教育节目的编导。我的工作很多,需要一个助手。我正在对琳达布莱克进行面试。她没有在电视台工作的经验,不过我觉得她可能会得到这份工作。
Main points of the text
Dialogue A
1. Could I join the school library?
不同于上一课的join the football club 加入足球俱乐部, 丽齐是想办个借书证。所以这句话也可以表示为Could I borrow(借)books from the school library?
2. I’ll study for three years in this technical school.
介词for 在这句话里是与表示一段时间的词组连用,表达时间的延续。
eg. Miss Li has worked in the Sino-US joint venture for three years since she graduated from the Nankai Community University.
李小姐从南开社区学院毕业后已在这家中美合资企业工作了三年。
3. Is this all right? 这样行吗?
eg. Is 7 o’clock all right for you? 7点钟对你合适吗?
Dialogue B
1. Li Ying shows a photo of her family to Lizzy
show sth. to sb. 或show sb. sth. 出示,把…给…看。这句话也可以表示为:
Li Ying shows Lizzy a photo of her family.
2. They used to be doctors and now both of them are retired.
我父母以前是医生,现在都退休了。
used to + inf. (不定式) 表示过去经常的习惯。又如:
There used to a forest here. 这里以前是一片森林。
both of them 是“他们两个人”,所以后面的be动词用 are, 与主语的人称和数保持一致。
3. He is the manager of a big company in the south.
还记得那几个表示方位的词吗?
North (北)
Northwest ↖ ↑ ↗ Northeast
West ←—|—→ East
Southwest ↙ ↓ ↘ Southeast
South
另外,这些词可以加后缀ern 变成形容词,这样你就一次性学会了十六个词。
4. It seems you have a happy family.
It seems看起来;似乎。seem是系动词,后跟表语从句(省略了引导词that),该句为主系表结构。类似的系动词还有look看起来, sound听起来。
Passage
1. I was born and brought up in a small town in England.
我出生在英国的一个小镇并在那里长大。
句话用了被动语态。被动语态由be动词 + 动词的过去分词构成,表示某件事被做,句子的主语是动作的承受者。但我们不必要、不知道或不情愿强调动作的发出者,或者无法使用主动语态时,我们就可以用被动语态(如果需要提及动作的发出者,就在被动语态后加by + 动作的发出者)。在这句话中,主人公琳达出生并被抚养长大这两个动作当然不是自己做的,所以用了被动语态。be 动词根据动作发生的时间变成was,动词的过去分词是born和brought,原形分别是bear和bring。这两个动词的过去分词是不规则形式,要逐个记忆。
eg. I was born and brought up in Tianjin. 我在天津出生长大。
My bicycle was stolen. 我的自行车被偷了。
注意从这句开始的四句话都是在叙述过去的经历,所以用的是一般过去时态,其中的动词都是过去式:
am — was study — studied become — became am — was
2. I studied at Cambridge for three years.
介词for +“三年”表示一段时间的延续。后面的I was a teacher for two years.中的for用法相同。后面Now I work for a women’s magazine.(l5第五行) 中的for则表示目的。
3. I don’t like my present job very much.
do在这里是助动词,用于构成否定句。
4. So I’m trying to get a job with the EBC.
注意这里“在某单位找工作”,英文用with,我们中文则说“在”。
5. It’s very difficult to get this job.
这是It’s + adj. (形容词) + to do sth. ( + for sb.) 的结构,意为“ (对某人来说 )做某事是…的”,还记得吗?
6. She does not have any experience in television.
does在这里是助动词,用于构成否定句;any 译为“任何”而非“一些”。We can also say: She hasn’t any experience in television.
